Textbook
Update Jan 2013
I can inform people that Volume 2 Edition 3 is in progress. Chapter 1 Draft 1 and Chapter 2 Draft 1 are available for download to help teachers and students until the complete book is published. I emphasise these are DRAFT editions and may (read will) have errors that are yet to be tidied up. Chapter 3 and 4 will be completed all going well by the end of the term when the book should be out.
It is my aim to have worked solutions like the new version of Volume 1 for the mechanics problems.
If you find any errors and you want to let me know, you can comment here, or email me at my DET email address, which is my names joined by a full stop followed by the usual DET address.
To answer the unasked question about electronic editions. I am investigating electronic versions once the print editions are finalised. Distribution is the challenge with things like site licences which of course some schools want. There will be no PDF version of the complete book, they are too easy to copy and my publisher won’t support that.
My publisher is also a seller of the books and he can be published at the phone, fax and email address below.
Volume 1
I can announce that Volume 1 is now finished and will go to the publisher for printing tomorrow. I have managed to include a some great new content on Logic Gates in chapter 4 and I have also redone the information on Stainless steels. More detail on metal solidification and casting as well. I have also done worked solutions to all mechanics and electronics questions. I hope this will help students when they are struggling with those challenging mechanics problems.
The publisher can be contacted by phone on (02) 4294 8542, by fax on (02) 4294 3963 or via email at:

When will be your book available?
I’d say it will be out around the end of Term 1, hopefully a little before. If it isn’t done by about week 5 of term 1 I will post the second chapter’s draft here.
Paul,
Will you make an electronic copy of the text available through site licence?
Hi Paul
Thank you very much for the notes.
Is it ok to give out the soft copy of the draft notes to my engineering students?
@Scott Sleap
Scott, it is something I need to discuss with my publisher as he actually owns the copyright. As a small publisher I am not sure he is keen to invest in soft copy technology that still have protected content. So sorry to not have definitive answer for you yet. For the record you are not the only person to ask. Cheers, Paul.
@Vinay
Yes that is fine. Thanks for asking.
paul, looks great.
Typo on Page 63, EX 2.5 Load should read 1200N not 200N ??
Thanks for the feedback Roger.
